Gorsehill and Pinehurst - Poppy Leeder

Poppy has lived in North Swindon for over ten years and shares a home with her husband, daughter and three stepsons. She joined the Green Party three years ago attracted by its vision for a different future and a better way of living.

Her concern at seeing the most vulnerable in society being targeted by austerity cuts convinced Poppy to stand in the coming election, and give a voice to those who can’t speak out.

A childhood visit to the Centre for Alternative Technology, followed by a degree in Business Administration and Environmental Management, persuaded Poppy that it’s necessary, and possible, to live well in a low carbon and sustainable way. More recently, working in one of the UK’s research councils gave her valuable insight into research findings on climate change and many related issues.

Poppy has campaigned for action on climate change and social injustice, and against war and the Trident replacement. She’s also worked with the council on improving local cycle routes, as a STEM ambassador to promote science in schools, and as a volunteer for a local charity.
